Uncovering project ideas from youth, contributing impactful creativity

 

The Project Management Challenge (PMC) 2024 brought together top college students from across the Asia-Pacific to demonstrate their project management skills and global perspectives. After submitting initial project ideas, the selected finalists gathered in Malang, Indonesia, for a three-day grand final.

 

On the first day at Brawijaya University, finalists from leading institutions such as University of Indonesia, Gadjah Mada University, Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology, IPB University, Sekolah Tinggi Informatika & Komputer Indonesia Malang, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, and Telkom University presented their proposals. They also participated in a mentoring session led by experienced project management experts who provided valuable guidance to enhance their skills and knowledge. The event was opened by the President of the PMI Indonesia Chapter, Achmad Fuad Bay, MPM., PMP., PMI-RMP., PMI-ACP. The day also featured a speech from Dr. Eng. Ir. Herman Tolle, S.T., M.T., Vice Dean of Brawijaya University, who encouraged participants to think creatively and globally. That evening, the cultural night became a highlight, with each group proudly showcasing their regional traditions and talents, celebrating the beauty of unity in diversity

 

Day two took the finalists on a field trip to Kampung Tridi and Kampung Warna Warni, where they encountered real-world challenges and applied the lessons from the previous day’s mentoring to propose fresh project management solutions.

 

The final day featured presentations of their field trip findings and project ideas, which were evaluated by a panel of judges. The event concluded at the Malang Creative Center (MCC), where the project proposals developed during the field trip were handed over to M. Syailendra, ST., MT. Staff Ahli to the Mayor of Malang, representing the Malang City government. An awards ceremony followed, recognizing the best performances and solutions from the grand finals of PMC 2024. The closing speech was delivered by Dr. Eva Handriyantini, S.Kom, M.MT., the Project Manager of PMC 2024, who led the team to a successful event.
