Sebastian Braun, Phd, PMP, FLMI
Intercultural Management Trainer, Coach and Consultant
In today's globalized economy, cross-cultural knowledge is becoming more and more important. Project managers have to be able to deal with multi-cultural teams, as know-how and project members are spread across countries. Integrating different cultures in a project is a challenge that requires a high level of leadership skills. Without knowledge about different cultures and their respective leadership styles, modern project management will fail. For Indonesia, this applies equally to foreigners and locals: both need to know about each other's business cultures to remain effective managers. While multinational companies have largely accepted the need for intercultural competence, awareness among Indonesian companies is sometimes lacking. This can be a disadvantage for Indonesian companies when they wish to expand their business internationally.
Sebastian Braun has been working and living in Asia for ten years. He holds a PhD in Southeast Asian Studies from Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany, and is a PMP. His management experience spans diverse industries: from NGOs and SMEs to MNCs. As project manager with AXA Mandiri, he was responsible for creating new products and services for priority customers of Bank Mandiri. After having experienced many cultural misunderstandings between foreigners and Indonesians, he recently decided to become a trainer for cross-cultural leadership. His clients so far include IKEA, AXA, Happy Dog/Cat and others
